Destination wedding in Sciacca
A working fishing town of ceramics, thermal springs and coloured boats.
Region
South Coast
Best months
May, June, September and October. The south coast stays warm well into autumn.
Getting there
About 1 hour 20 minutes from Palermo airport and two hours from Catania. Civil ceremonies are celebrated at the Comune. The old town is steep, with staircases rather than roads in places.
Getting married in Sciacca
Sciacca is one of the few coastal towns in Sicily that still lives from the sea rather than from tourism. The port is full of blue and orange fishing boats, the old town climbs above it in terraces, and every staircase is decorated with the hand-painted ceramics the town is famous for.
It is an honest, colourful place to marry, with thermal spa hotels for guests and the Greek temples of Selinunte forty minutes to the west.
Venues and locations I use in Sciacca
- Chiesa Madre and the churches of the old town
- Castello Luna and the Castello Incantato sculpture park
- Thermal resorts and cliffside hotels above the sea
- The fishing port for a documentary-style couple session
- Selinunte archaeological park, forty minutes away

Frequently asked questions
Is Sciacca cheaper than the eastern coast?
Generally yes. Venues and accommodation on the south coast are noticeably less expensive than in Taormina or the Aeolians.
What is the best time of day at the port?
Early morning, when the boats come back in, or the last light of the day when the hulls turn gold.
