Region

Best months

May to October. The salt pans are at their most colourful in July and August, when the harvest is under way.

Getting there

Trapani Birgi airport is twenty minutes away, with low-cost connections across Europe. Civil ceremonies are held at Palazzo Cavarretta. The salt pans are a protected reserve: access for photography is allowed, but drones require authorisation.

Getting married in Trapani

Trapani stretches into the sea on a sickle of land, and just south of the town the salt pans create a landscape of shallow mirrors, white salt mountains and 16th century windmills. At sunset the water turns pink and the whole horizon becomes a reflection — a unique setting for a couple session.

The old town itself is Spanish in feel, with baroque churches and a long pedestrian corso that ends at the sea on both sides.

Frequently asked questions

What time should we schedule the salt pans session?

Forty minutes before sunset. The colour peaks in the last twenty minutes and the reflection is strongest when the wind drops.

Can we combine Trapani with Erice on the same day?

Yes, they are fifteen minutes apart, and the contrast between medieval stone and open salt flats makes a very strong gallery.
